I'm trying to do a write-up on longtail race cars and I need some help. Can you point me to any obscure longtail racecars that you know of?

I already have the Porsche 908 917 962 and 935, the Renault Alpine A220 and A442, the Ferrari 512S and I think I’ve found a GT40 longtail. Thanks for the help, 917 for your time.

In Italian it is coda lunga, in German it is Lang Heck, and in French it is longue queue.

Would the GT40 Mk IV be considered a longtail?

The Nissan R390 had a longtail version.

And I suppose you could consider the 935 Moby Dick a longtail as well.

I was trying to figure out if MK IV counted, but I also found these which are supposedly longtail road versions with larger storage space in the back

You’re welcome, I’ve always been fascinated by longtails myself, so I’m very curious to see what you are going to write!

Also the Shelby Daytona could be seen as a longtail version of the Cobra, since it served the same purpose as most longtails, while using the Cobra chassis.

I don’t even know yet, but finding out about them is surprisingly hard. I think most of these were Le Mans specials that weren’t run for many races so finding out technical details is tough. A little while ago I tried to dig into the A220 and I didn’t very far . These things are fast and beautiful so I’ll see what happens.

That’s a coincidence! I’ve got a scale model of an Alpine A220 Aileron test car coming in from America soon. It’s an absurdely bonkers prototype with a wing twice as high as the car.

I think so, but this is one of the only photos I’ve seen of it, other than photos of the scale model. That’s probably the case since the particular chassis has probably been converted back to a normal A220 after testing was over.
